About Us

As a kid, my great-grandfather who we called Grappa, helped raise me along with the rest of our family village which included my Mom, Grandmother Lala and Winona, Grandpa, Uncles, Step parents and neighbors all over west Oakland. My Grappa taught me the meaning of KARMA. In his words - “do good by people and good things will come to you”. It stuck with me. Like most, I’ve done some wrong in my life but I’ve done a whole lot right. The KARMA 1896 lifestyle brand is dedicated to him. 1896 is his birth year and his spirit lives on forever. 

The brand is based on simple, old school teachings anyone can incorporate into their lifestyle to “do good by people”. We want to create an energy that carries through for everyone. The brand is created with “our culture” in mind. It’s sleek and Oakland grown. As we’ve launched we find so many people asking - what is KARMA or simply complimenting the brand logo. 

It’s time for “doing good by people”. A percentage of the dollars generated from sales will be re-invested with other business owners of color and for the good of the community.
